Although I've travelled to many countries and am keen to see more, it's quite possible I'll end up back here again soon, Central America has so much to offer and it is far safer than New York or Los Angeles!
Leaving was a little like Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None". Just as we'd all arrived a few weeks ago in ones and twos, so we left the same way. Being the first to have arrived, it was only natural that I'd be the last to leave. This gave me the chance to awaken early, farewell everyone over 4-5 hours and to enjoy 3 breakfasts. It was also the chance to get in a bit of last minute "power shopping", where a shop with higher than average quality clothes met up with my American Express card - I really should have left home without it.
I actually stayed a few days in LA on my homeward journey, setting a record for the shortest tour of Disneyland in history. Two hours in total, including 1 hour buying gifts for my niece and nephews and I was bored out of my brain. Sorry Walt, it's not your fault that you can't match it with Central America!
At least Venice Beach had something different to offer with its muscle bound wanna be movie stars. Air New Zealand flew me home in comfort and safety, although I'd have rather they flew me back to Panajachel. At least I have great memories, several delightful wallhangings and hundreds of good (and some not so good) photos as a reminder of this part of the world. One final word, an unpaid advertisement for Gap Adventure Tours - thanks for a magic holiday.
Panajachel, Lake Atitlan is the jewel of the Guatemala highlands. Read all the latest news, view great photos and find excellent tour information. Plus for chocolate and coffee freaks there's hundreds of pages of interesting info.
